Making terrain that really follows countours?
-
The attached file has imported contours, with grading around the road and building pad. I would like to create a terrain from this that actually follows the contours.
When I use the SketchUp create terrain tool, there are lots of odd jaggies. I also tried TopoShaper and while it is better, the terrain it creates does not always follow the contours -- on the building pad, for instance, at the almost-vertical edges, it makes them less vertical.
Is there a way with TopoShaper or something else to create a terrain that really follows the contours and does not smooth out too much or create weird jaggies?

@jteselle
I may have figured out a workaround -- creating a TIN in Autocad from the contours, and then importing that 3D object into SU. The TIN then follows the contours accurately.Would still be interesting to know if there is some other way to do this in SU.

Toposhaper uses a grid based topology approach and it also considers the bounding box of the selected contours.
If you orientate your contours so the house footing follows the global XY axis. Then trim the contours so they are not obtuse you can get a better result.
Increasing the Grid resolution as needed

Thank you. What do you mean by trim the contours so they are not obtuse?

Remove the overhang

Got it. Thanks!
