Trimbloe DOS on the warehouse
-
I bought a copy of SU 2020 before they announcde they were going the Autodesk screw you route.
I've been able to download some fairly useful models from 3d warehouse.
Now Trimble have shut done all access unless you're a paying subscriber.
I'm calling bollocks on this and I think this is something that everyone who has a lifetime license need to lobby on.
I'm not joking on this front.
People who have legit permanent licenses need to join with me to fight against this.
My premiss for suit is this is a bait and switch.

You should read the Terms of Service for SketchUp. You purchased a license to use SketchUp not the 3D Warehouse. Trimble has had their "Current Minus Two" policy in effect for nearly a decade so this should not have come as a surprise.

I understand your frustration but I imagine the operational costs of the 3DW is sizable and maintaining it retroactively for non-customers is a cost that's hard to swallow.
Also current paying customers are then propping up the service for non-customers. So that devalues the offering for existing customers.
Its all a bit of a mess to be honest. When the previous owner wanted 3d for everyone and the new owners are about maximising profits there's bound to be friction.
But the 3DW still remains accessible online just not integrated in legacy builds.
I see software licensing the same as supporting your local team. Some years you get success and others you just survive. But if you don't turn up to cheer the team when things are rough then you won't see success again.
Its a tough spot your in. You no longer enjoy the team but you are still a supporter. It's on them to win back your custom.
Don't invest your energy fighting though. That's better spent elsewhere.
