Great work!
I have a couple of questions:
-
What UV tool do you use? WrapR?
-
Do you eyeball the modeling, use plans or a combination of the two?
-
In general, how do you integrate Blender and SU with your work at Artstation?
Thanks.
Hi Gus R, I use Blender for UV mapping, and no eyeballing here! all to plan, and if I cant find plans I carefully study photos using perspective matching to get measurements ( like the mast for the Dory )
Export from SU into blender and bobs your uncleMike that stage is the pudding

Dory done and dusted. The mast, oars, sail and rudder are all separate models so that they can be removed depending on what task you are doing in game, some models that would be used together share the same material.
-
Dory implemented, was a good refresher, its been a long time since I have made content for vsng!
Now back to the mothership!
-
Work continues on Lettie G Howard, new items include the charlie noble, her starboard anchor, new furled sails & Temp Nav lights, im still deciding how many props (if any) I want along the decks since these are not possible to move in game. Next the eagle figurehead needs to be done!
As for the Dory`s ive been searching all over to see if they were covered with Tarp when not in use, I have not been able to find a single image with tarp, so for now, they stay open!

-
Sails are up! the fishermans sail will unfortunately not be able to work in game as it is fixed to 2 axis and deforms by nature, the sim does not support this and it would look very strange if it rotated on either of the 2 axis.
-
I appreciate it if please share more wireframe images. Also, the rendering style is really enchanting to me, what rendering engine do you use?
-
Thanks Majid, those are done in Vray
She`s just about ready for the next phase, just need to optimize all the mirrored items and touch up here and there.
Heres a short vid, not sure how to embed it properly here :

A masterpiece as good as any. Thanks for showing this to us, it would be very nice to see any more that you get around to.
Something to brighten the day.
-
Wow, This is out of world! I learn much more form wire-frame mode. Thanks for sharing.
-
Such beautiful work, nothing else to say
-
Thanks guys, we are in the last stretch now!
After about 20 Hours (3 Days) of UV Mapping, shes just about ready for the next phase, heres how it looked after day 1 :
And now :
Oh and I forgot to mention another day was spent just getting her animating correctly in game:
[
Ive noticed many errors already, but all in all the wood is bending just how I was hoping it would, its the first time ive managed to map a hull correctly so that a straight material will follow the hull curve correctly.
And heres with some colours applied, this will all be properly redone soon:

This thread is one of the most outstanding I have seen. The details and rendering are over the top and the video is truly amazing IMO.
-
^ Wot he said too.

Thanks guys, I am glad you are enjoying it, this has been a fun project so far, im excited to get to the sails, no idea what im going to do there yet as far as materials go.
The hull is almost ready, just tweaking the materials until im happy with them, trying not to overdo the weathering, but its so pretty
-
Wow!
-
-
Awesome!
I really enjoyed the videos, especially the first one. How did you get the movement of the water and where did you det the background for it. Again,
-
Thanks, all built into twinmotion
