Selection filter plugin
-
Hello All!
I am currently working with a file that was originally exported from ArchiCad.
It is a multi-story building with curtain walls and I am trying to separate the glazing from the metal elements via tags so that I can apply the appropriate materials.Because ArchiCad exports are nested groups it is difficult to apply materials to these elements easily. I currently use ThruPaint in my workflow for most items that come from ArchiCAD. However, separating thousands of glazing panels from thousands of metal railings and mullions is not really a feasible task. From ArchiCad the exported skp models are structured so that the default material is assigned to all groups and the geometry inside that group contains the material. So far using the native selection methods or ThomThom's "selection toys" plugin has not yielded desired results. My hope is to find a plugin that can select by materials but it must see INSIDE nested groups as that is the current condition from the ArchiCad export.
I hope I am explaining this properly. I am including a small section of the curtain wall (zipped skp file) to help illustrate.

Did you try Tig's aptly name Layer Material Tools?

Thanks Rich! I will check it out and see how it goes. Thanks.

So as an update- this seems to half-work. The plugin creates layers/tags from the materials but then leaves a set of groups behind that is only edges. I am wondering if that is something that can be deleted?

Doesn't Archicad have 'combine by material' option when exporting to external file formats like fbx\obj? If you by mistake have 3ds Max- there are some soog solutions..
