What is the benefit of the "use texture image" feature in the materials edit box? It seems to mess up my model; maybe I'm doing something wrong. Why would I choose this feature over bringing in a texture via File/Import, which works well every time?

It allows you to toggle off the texture for the material and replace it with a solid colour. This can save a smidge of time. Only thing to be aware of is the new solid colour still has the original texture name.

If you apply your original material again it will be renamed to [OrignalName]1

Wait, so both the new color and the original texture will have the same name? So I would have to rename one, right?

SketchUp Materials [.skm files] can be either colours or images. If your original material LindaRose.skm is a material with an image assigned and you uncheck Use Texture Image. You still have LindaRose.skm associated to the model.

If you add the same LindaRose.skm from an external library. SketchUp will rename the material to [LindaRose]1.skm

SketchUp embeds all materials, styles and components into its .skp file. Something needs to happen. The logic is to rename any same name object rather than overwrite.

There's only only one LindaRose.skm. The rest are just shameful impersonators.

Ok, thanks again! One more question. I'm on a Mac and dragged a bunch of colors to the color wells at the bottom. How do I delete those colors from the color wells? It used to be I could drag a blank well over a color to delete it, but that's not working for me anymore.

Mac is outside my jurisdiction I'm afraid.
