      Hello.

I'm after a few recommendations for good quality 3D terrain and building file providers please. I thought I'd found a good one at zmapping.com but I've been waiting a long time for quote information to come through from them so I'm wanting to look elsewhere. Any suggestions?

PS; The building structures are essential, so the Near-Map option in SU isn't good enough.

No, I'm on the latest version (time for a quick profile update methinks!)

            Thanks for updating your profile.

            Have you looked at Placemaker?

              Isn't that US only?

                Sorry.

Are there any local GIS data suppliers around you?

I've never had a need for one before as I'm expanding my services a bit to include town planning instead of only landscape design work. I went straight to google initially but it has only offered me a great deal of mediocrity.

I imagine hi detail info will cost money. Not sure who can supply that to you locally but there must be some council agency or something that has it.

I'm not getting my hopes up, some of the more rural places I work in have only just stopped pointing and gasping at cars.

                        LOL!

Seems to me there's Lidar data available of at least most of England but I'm not sure if you can get that in a form that can be imported into SketchUp. I looked once but not very hard. Maybe you'll have to get one of those GPS gadgets and walk around collecting spot elevations. Then you can convert that into a point cloud. I've been wondering about doing that for my own property. Honestly, I expect if you need high res terrain data for single parcels of land, you'll probably need someone on the ground.
