Using a shape on a picture in Sketchup?
-
Hello,
How can I integrate the shape of a drawer guide(350mm * 37mm at its greatest width) from a picture into a design?
Here attached the picture and the design in sketchup it has to be put on it in order to CNC-mill the shape out of the wood.Best regards

What are you trying to mill? The drawer guide? Or are you locating the holes for screws? Or something else?
You can't use the image itself as geometry but you could import the image as an image and use it as a reference for tracing. The precision of that will probably be suspect because of the angle at which the guide is placed in the image. Was the camera arranged so the image plane is parallel to the face of the guide? If not, and you need a precise model, the image isn't very useful.
Presumably you have the drawer guide in hand. Instead of importing an image into SketchUp, I would just take measurements from the actual guide and model it or at least use those dimensions to make out hole locations.
What version of SketchUp are you actually using? Your profile indicates a version that does not exist.

Hello,
Thank You for Your message!
I am using the Pro version 21.1.332
Meanwhile I have realized by myself that it is at least tricky to use this image to mill the shape of the guide in a depth of 1mm in order to place it at the exact place on all the parts. Therefore I will only drill 2 holes in a depth of some mm, that will do the same job and is a lot easier.
Kind regards

Please correct your profile, then.

AlohaaThat does sound like a better option. Sometimes images can be useful but as I wrote before, usually not when you need precision like you would for created CNC toolpaths.
Good luck.

Hi,
Meanwhile I have noticed that the manufacturer offers the plan of the guides in several formats, even in.skp! for each of it's guides.
So I could use that file for placing the holes exactly.Thank you for your interest and your help!
Kind regards
Alohaa
