Win 10 has made SU 2017 very slow. To the point of unusable.

Anyone have any ideas? I've already downloaded and ran the patch file, WindowsSlowSelectionWorkaround, but it did nothing.

I've also ran the Win 10 compatibility utility and seemed to work, but only briefly.

I think I've fixed it. I adjusted my Intel graphics card for performance instead of quality.

That seems to have resolved it.

Update. The problem is not fixed. I've tried almost everything suggested on various forums.

          SketchUp has become unusable.

The problem it with the selection tool. All other functions work fast and fine, but as soon I use the selection tool in any manor, SU freezes.

Also double click and triple click selection does not work. This seems to be a big problem with SU 2017 under Win 10.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The most common reason for this issue is that a Win 10 update installed a new graphic card driver that frankly doesn't work.
You can normally go to the Card Manufacturers site and download the correct driver, don't rely on Windows to tell you you have the most up to date driver.
Some people have fixed it with a new driver, others have needed to roll back to an old driver.

Honestly your problem IS your Intel graphics card. If you have a desktop the easiest solution is to see what dedicated graphics you can afford to install. An Nvidia GTX 1050 is about $160 at Newegg.com again if your PC has the open slot and power supply to run it.
If you have a laptop then you need a better laptop with a dedicated Nvidia graphics card. 😞
My desktops with Nvidia cards have NEVER had Windows 10 automatically update their drivers, ever. My Windows 10 desktop at the office is up to date but my graphics card is still running driver 430.58 while current driver is 451.77 at Nvidia website. All my AutoCAD, SU, Blender, Revit etc apps are working fine so I see no reason to update driver unless there is a bug fix or security patch.
Funny thing is that the on-board Intel 630 graphics card on this same desktop is showing driver version 25.20.100.6617 from 3/8/2019 while current driver is 27.20.100.8581 from 7/29/2020. I wonder if it doesn't update since it is not being used? It's not showing that it is disabled either. Interesting..

I was assuming that SU 2017 Make had been previously working on Bryan's computer and since nothing has changed with 2017 something on the PC has. This would suggest that the intel card is capable of running 2017, but the driver could be the issue.

Oh I totally agree. I was just saying that a dedicated card would be a better answer if he can add one on. I just don't have a lot of experience with on-board cards as I don't use them and haven't in a long time..well since Win7 😉
It's a shame when some one has a good PC except for the on-board shared video solution 😞

Yeah, Intel. I hate Intel graphics.

Yeah it's a laptop, so only solution is replacement.

I've tried something not mentioned anywhere and that was to uninstall Microsoft 3D Viewer. I also believe the last model I was working on became corrupted and caused problems as well.

I am currently testing these changes.

Yes and installed it. No change.

Ok, have you tried rolling back to or downloading and installing an older driver.
Have you tried ticking or unticking 'Use Fast Feedback' in the Opengl settings.
Have you checked that your laptop isn't limiting power to the graphic card to save battery.

Did it actually run properly at some stage on this computer?
If so, when did it stop working correctly, was it after a Windows update or perhaps some other software installation.
Did you install it using Run As Administrator from the context menu on the install.exe? (installing, not running SU)If not or you can't remember, download a fresh copy from the downloads page, find it in your downloads folder, select it, right click and choose Run as Administrator, follow the prompts and when given the choice select Repair.

Did you do any or all of these things while holding your mouth right?

There are many options and configurations and reasons and they have been written about in many threads, so it is hard to guess what you have tried. But I'm pretty sure adding RAM, while handy, won't fix the issue. Going back to the time when it stopped working properly and undoing the windows update would probably work, but unless you know when and have a backup to that time it's probably not possible.

It turned out I was not holding my mouth just right.

What I did was was run Compatibility Fix a few times, ran as Win 7, then tested, then let run native in Win 10, tested, then put it back to Win 7, tested, then put it back to native under Win 10.

                                      And now it works!

                                      Upgrades. Always something. 😆

Thanks to everyone for the help. Let's hope it holds.

And it did not fix it. The problem came back.

This only became a problem after I upgraded to Win 10.

All drivers have been updated from mfg website.

Compatibility set and resets have been done.

It ONLY fails when I use the Selection tool/arrow.
