Anyone Upgrading to 2020?

It's out.

LOL, looks like I did last week when my M&S came due and I had it to auto-update. Downloading right now.....
-
My maintenance is up to date and active, so will download and get my licence, but I'm going to first look and see what benefits are. Losing layers is a bit of a bummer to my way of working, will have to see how to adapt.

It's only a name change. No change to the way you work. Since they've never been layers in the traditional sense, I'm pleased to see they've stopped calling them that.

And there is a different download link for an offline installer, the link by DaveR above (which is the historical download link) seems to be for an online installer? The file names in the various links, referring to SUPro 2020, are different with SU warning that the offline installer file is much larger than the online installer. WUT?
The online installer is smaller because it picks up your language option and installs the required files. The Offline installer includes all languages because it won't be able to get the language during install since you would presumably have no internet connection if you are installing offline.

OK, so the release notes page hasn't been updated to show SUPro 2020 yet.

*** EDIT ***
Offline installer (Windows) = 521MB
Online installer (Windows) = 200MB -
LOL, just renewed my M&S and when I log into my account at SketchUp.com it says that I only have the free version. Even click on the link in the receipt email after renewing it.
OK, did the update/upgrade "Wizard". Got it going

O I C . . .
Strange that the language pack installer is 260% that of the single language (presumably English) version?

Lots of stuff to update. Takes time. Release notes are now available.

While it will take a bit to get used to tags, the other features in SU are worthy. I love the changes to hidden geometry. This feature will be very helpful!
The automatic transparency when selecting objects is going to be very helpful as well.
-
Agreed. There's some really cool stuff with LayOut now, too.
As for tags, it's only a semantics thing. The work flow is the same. Untagged replaces Layer 0. Leave Untagged as active at all times. Assign other tags to groups and components but leave geometry untagged. Easy stuff.

Help
I have had the classic license since it was available. However, I am lost on how to add the 2020 license. I still have some time on my last payment.
Version 2020 starts out with 30-day trial is over. I click on add classic license. And the info they ask for where is that found?
Help would be nice.
Thanks in advance
Ken.
Dave, help another bowler wearer.

Ken, as in the past, you should get an e-mail in the next few days with your 2020 license information. It takes the system a little while to go through all of the current classic-licensed users and send out the license information. You could also go to https://www.sketchup.com/license/renew and plugin in your 2019 serial number and license. I'm not sure how long it takes to get that updated but I expect it won't take long. In any case, nothing to panic about. You've got a month to add the license.
By the way, I edited your post to remove the screen shot that showed your serial number.

Thanks Dave.
About 4 weeks ago, I had a major problem. I was removing some plugins, and apparently I removed something that required me to re-install Sketchup 2019. I had the file, re-installed, but it didn't keep my plugins. Lost all my plugins, lost all the template for Sketchup and Layout.
Thanks Again.

What extensions were you removing that would require reinstalling SketchUp? Due to the location of them, you should be able to uninstall extensions without affecting the Sketchup installation at all. Also due to the normal locations of the files, reinstalling the same version of SketchUp shouldn't result in the loss of already installed extensions or materials, styles, custom templates, etc.
Make sure that you install SketchUp correctly no matter which version. Right click on the installer and select Run as administrator. If you didn't do that, you should go back and find the downloaded installer and do it. Choose Repair if the option is presented.
-
Like a fool, I didn't run the installer as an administrator. So when I opened up the program after the install it said my 30-day trial had expired and wouldn't let me go any further.
So I saw Dave post, I went back and ran the installer again, this time making sure I ran the installer as an administrator and used the selection repair. And now when I open the program, it says, open the program to start your 30-trial. And Sketchup opens. Now I get to see all the improvements.
Thanks Dave.

Excellent!

Yippy....!!
Some very cool stuff particularly with the huge improvement with Outliner. I'm glad to see something that I have requested over the years has finally come to fruition!! -
Yet another worthless release. Half of release notes describe layers to tags renaming.
Crazy... -
What a pointless, negative, close minded attitude.
