"We've Stopped Updating Sketchup Make"

hellnbak it doesn't impact you at all. You are happy with Make 2015 and it will continue to work for you as long as your computer keeps it working. If you keep your installation file you can continue to reinstall it as long as your OS is compatible.
They stopped updating Make more than a year ago, with the advent of SU2018, as you haven't needed 2016, 2017 or 2018 its unlikely that you would be interested in 2019.True but how long will it be supported? The subtext says to me if your computer dies, or becomes corrupted, will we be able to fix or or reinstall? I think not
-
It isn't supported, just like many other superseded programs aren't supported.
Who even said it was? It's there in black and white, we have stopped updating Make.
This does not suddenly stop it working on your computer, it will continue to work, at no cost to you, until such time as you upgrade your operating system beyond a point at which it will still function.
As I said above, if you keep the install file you can reinstall it on a system that is capable of running it for as long as you have that system.
-
Never suggested it would "stop working" was simply saying if your computer dies and you have not, or are unable to recover, or have the file backed up, you will not be able to re download. Am I wrong?
(Edited) I have had to do that about 5 times in 10 years. Now I cannot simply download 2017 is that correct?
-
There are still places where older versions are archived, back to at least 2014. And Make 2017 is still officially downloadable from the sketchup download link.
-
Also remember that future OS updates "might" cause it to not run. Just think about the rumor that Apple is looking at going to ARM for their Macbooks. The last OSX SU Make installer will NOT run on an ARM based Macbook, unless some black-magic is used

Of course there have been rumors of that sort for years and there are people still using SketchUp 6, 7, and 8 and even some using older versions. I installed SketchUp 3.1 on my Win 10 machine recently. It works just fine. It's interesting to see how limited the options were back in those days.
The cabinet was modeled in a much later version. That old version has no option to control texture orientation.
-
Agreed Dave, I myself had very little issues from Win7 to 10 but going to something like ARM might be a big deal. If it ever happens that is. I remember NO ONE believed that Apple would drop PowerPC either
-
Box. I didn't know older versions are archived somewhere to download. Just wonder how you find that. So someone could get Make anytime?

If Trimble allowed "make" to be downloaded any time into the future, that would go against Trimbles trajectory of making everyone pay for Sketchup, apart from the almost useless free online version. I would be glad to be wrong about this.......but I don't think I am
-
I can find links to 2014 Make, 2015 Make 2016 Make and 2017 Make easily downloadable from official links in the Sketchup forum. I could probably find 2013 and the last version of 8 if I could be bothered looking. All it takes is using the search function.
-
Hi Box, I just tried to download Sketchup make to test. Seems to me it is no longer downloadable at least to install anyway.
-
All that screenshot is telling me is that you are trying to install make on a pc that already has make installed so it is asking do you want to repair it.
-
My mistake, a Duh! moment. I was trying to get a version other than 20217 Make whigh I have installed.
Not having a lot of luck though, so far anywayIt just makes no sense to me that trimble would allow people the option of downloading an older version of Make
If anyone is able to download an instal an older version of Make please let me know -
Which one do you want and in what language?
-
2016, English? I know I might be seen as being argumentative here but like I said I can not get my head around the bussiness model of sketchup make still being available for download.
-
OK, Box I stand corrected, completely I installed 2016 and it works. An unexpected consequence is I had an issue with none of my Sketchup files showing the SU icon or previews. That function is now restored
-
This is why I get so annoyed by people posting misinformation and opinion as fact.
I may or may not agree with what Trimble have done with sketchup, but I don't comment either way in public and I attempt to correct people when they are wrong.
Too many people use the trump method of shouting louder rather than using facts.
The world would be a better place if people checked facts rather than rely on what is 'trending'. -
Try this, I assume you want Win 64.
-
Fair enough.

There are only two reasons I can think of for installing Make 2015 rather than the final Make 2017. Either you dislike using the tray system and want to use the old floating dialog system, but that is only on windows.
Or your Mac graphic card/OS isn't up to the job.
If your grandkids have never used it it would make sense to give them Make 2017 as it is the closest step to Pro (that you may get them in future). Assuming you want them to use a desktop version.
The web version, on the other hand, should continue to evolve as it gets more and more functionality. They may find working with that more suited to their web based brains. You don't explain what issues you had with using 2017, perhaps we can help get that working for you.
The reference to the wrong tools isn't something I'm automatically remembering being talked about, but it does sound like a graphic card issue.
Could you give us some specs on the laptops.I'd also recommend you start another thread with your issues rather than burying them in here.
Leave the 'Post script' here and start a thread detailing the specs of your new laptops and what issues you may be having with them and installation of various versions and perhaps people are likely to see and help.
