Sketchup to STEP or IGS
-
Hello, fellow SketchUp user,
I need help with exporting native Sketchup file into STEP or IGS file format. I can't find any good and easy way to do that.
Maybe someone on this forum has already solver this problem and can share their method?
I would be very helpful for any help on this topic.
Thanks

I tried this once. Have to look at my notes tomorrow. Dont expect anything usefull from tbe import though. It will be raw geometry without any logic/attributes etc in the mesh. You probably will have to redraw everyting in the software you are trying to export to.

In my notes I read:
-
I used an IGS export plugin. Its quite old already (my project was early 2014).
You can download it here https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=43307 -
the resulting igs file had to go through Heekscad before my client could open it in their igs/step software.
Hopefully the exporter works fine on your 3d model.

Thank you very much.
I will try out this method and will let everyone know how it went. -

there is no good way to do that because the facetted meshes created with SketchUp do not make much sense for the STEP or ol' IGES formats made for a 3D CAD data exchange of NURBSplines based surfaces and solids... which is typically expected by resp. useful only in the importing 3D CAx modeling application.
The easiest way is probably misusing a NURBS-based modeler by exporting from SU to the DWG format, import in the NURBS modeler, optionally do a mesh to NURBS conversion if available and export preferrably to the recent STEP format (industry standard for exchanging exact 3D CAD data)... still a workaround.

Take a look at TurboCad Delux trial.
It will read Sketchup and ACAD files and does export real solids.
Easy to use too.dtr

SKetchUP --> export as OBJ --> Moi3D beta V4 (only for owners of the V 3) and you have your Step, IGS files!
(it has also export SKP! So cool for import Nurbs inside SketchUp!But careful: transform Polygonal files in Nurbs is not a pleasure's party for programs!
