      Hi there

We just upgraded an iMac to a new model with 24Gb of RAM.

Sketchup seems to be grabbing memory and not letting go. It got up to 98.5Gb!

      anybody seen this?

I reinstalled Sketchup with no difference.

2018 iMac running High Sierra 10.13.6

      Thanks - Gregor

Any chance you're running a 3D Connexion device? Those are well known for this sort of thing.

By Jove I think you've got it in one!

Uninstalled 3D Connexion and so far it appears as stable as a rock.

            Many many thanks.

            Cheers - Gregor

At least that part is sorted. Check with 3D Connexion and see if they have updated drivers for your device. They were supposed to be working on this issue and were going to release new drivers. Not sure if they have yet or not. I guess since you have the thing and might like to use it, it's worth checking. If they don't have an updated version yet, check with them periodically to see if they've caught up.

I reinstalled the latest drivers from them and lo and behold, the problem was replicated perfectly. Uninstalled and stable again.

Will write to them. They definitely need it sorted.

                Thanks again.

Yes. They do need it sorted.

We've been trying to get 3DConnexion to acknowledge and fix this issue for years, but so far no luck! It doesn't happen to everyone and doesn't happen every time. There's been a topic on the Trimble SketchUp forum where simoncbevans found that if he disabled the MacOS firewall while installing the driver and then turned it back on afterward that his device started to behave. I tried that, and for me the results are still erratic: many times SketchUp will work just fine, and then suddenly for no obvious reason the memory blows up again.
