Movin' on...
-
Hi chaps, just a heads up to my friends here at SU.
About to move from the burbs up the country to the King Valley (One hr. NE of Mansfield).
Internet will be patchy so I don't suppose I will be keeping up much.I am going to build myself a Tiny House on wheels. Very exciting, a chance to use everything I've learned about boatbuilding, furniture and design over the last 45 years. I intend the whole thing to be like a fine piece of furniture...my swansong.
Will also be off-grid about which I have only basic knowledge, so a steep learning curve coming upDesigning in SU of course, I will share progress when I get further ahead.
On that note, is there anybody familiar with Victorian, (Australia) building codes?
I need some help with the specs, particularly the roof spans and connections. Happy to pay for some advice or even perhaps an engineers sign-off?.So wishing you all a very happy Christmas.
Catch you all in a few months.

Merry Christmas to you too and I'm looking forward to the building story!

Where will you be building the house Baz, what town? I'd like to google it. Will you have a good set of tools?

All the best with the move Baz, looking forward to your occasional updates.
Richard might be the one to give you some advice.

Oh my! what an adventure, good luck mate.
You are doing what I dream I had the courage to do, just recently watched a documentary of a retired couple doing something similar in Alaska.
All the best and please keep us posted.

Sounds great! Sort of the way I spent my youth, but my abodes were not as nice as you'll have. Off grid is great! The internet will find you regardless! Looking forward to the news. Happy New Year and best of luck!

Jealous! Enjoy the next phase of your adventure

As will all sorts of creepy crawlers.
Good luck, Baz, and a happy 2018. Do let us know how the house is coming along.

All the best, Baz!
As Box said; Richard might be your best bet on this forum; he's down that way [closer than me anyway]
If you're building on wheels.I assume you're towing it so it's only going to be 3.0m wide or there abouts to meet Main Roads requirements of vehicle size. Also there are heights to be aware of so I'd definitely do some initial investigation with Vic Roads....
Re: building codes/standard; AS 1684 Timber framing code and the NCC Volume 2 are building bibles in Australia however you're not really building a 'building'; you're building a caravan!!
Don't know much in the way of movable housing but I'd suggest there would need some number crunching done on movement, weight distribution, etc.BTW, interesting article about a couple winning the right to keep their 'tiny house on wheels in their yard'...

OK JuJu, that sounds a bit condescending or did I misunderstand?
What you see here is a cutting edge living space. And yes, it is cosy in winter and hopefully cool in summer.Or did you mean just small?
Which is a very different thing.
