Messed about making some models for the parts collection this afternoon. Here's a wine opener. Quick render in Twilight.

Very nice Charles πŸ‘ I'd love to see it taken to the next level with round edges and a reflection source. πŸ‘

Thanks everyone for your replies. Will try and address a couple of things brought up in your posts.

There is a round corner modeled into the handle scales. The lever had a Bevel Modifier applied inside Twilight's material settings for that part. If you look close you can see it's doing it's job of breaking the appearance of the sharp edges on that part. Keep in mind the parts of this thing are really thin. As for reflections, I chose to go with a more matte texture on the handle scales. The lever and filler block had a stainless steel template applied as I didn't want as high a shine on these parts as the corkscrew and knife blade have. Again my personal choice. Another thing to keep in mind is I set up the render with a soft box set up which tends to cut down on high contrast reflections at times.

As for sharing the model... Thought about offering it up to Rich for the sketchUcation store if he is interested. Maybe a freebie for premium members , nominal fee for others. Rich if you see this and your interested give me a shout.

In responce to good input from tadema, tweaked a few things in the model and made some adjustments on the render side and ran a new image. For better or worse.....

Hello Charles, the rounded edges certainly look better IMHO πŸ‘ few modern objects have arris corners/edges, supposedly to aid both aesthetics and safety. Please don't think I was criticising, that was never my intention.

Definitely looks better to me. Now if you get just brighten the render just a little. At least on my iPad it is just a little dark.

John, No worries. If I thought you were being harsh I wouldn't have gone back into the model and tweaked on things. Try to absorb peoples input , just takes a while to sink in sometimes. Thanks.
Mike A. , ntxdave, Thanks gentlemen. Dave the image seeming darker might just be monitor differences. Tone looks good on my screen. Bye the way I did use a darker grey background color on the second render. Just liked the looks of it a little better.

Pretty dark on my (calibrated) monitor too.

O.K. everybody, posting new render. Render settings and number of passes the same just went back to a lighter colored back drop......
baz, I probably need my eyeballs calibrated.....

Better but I still like the render settings from the first image the best.

Quality of the model is better with the updated edges though.

Hello Charles, I did not explain very well in my first post when I mentioned reflections, this type of "still life" image benefits from HDRI lighting...try it and watch it come alive.

Super realistic! Great looking render. I like the shiny parts, especially because of the rounded edges looking good.

pbacot, Thanks for the kind words.

tadema, Just to let you know, all of the images were rendered in a HDRI "soft box".

Funny how these threads can go down a different track. Just started it as a "here's a kinda of neat prop" I modeled. Kind of went down the road to let's make it look like a product ad image for wine openers. Do appreciate everyones comments and suggestions.

Posting the model. Enjoy.... One final comment, you can pretty easy adjust the position of the lever, corkscrew and knife blade. Click into the main component, select the sub component you want to move and use the rotate tool on the center of the parts "hinge pin" and rotate as desired.

And another thing further down the hole. A serrated blade is better for cutting the foil.
