Wine Opener - Model Posted
-
Sounds like a render challenge in the making... fancy sharing the model?
-
Super realistic! Great looking render. I like the shiny parts, especially because of the rounded edges looking good.
-
pbacot, Thanks for the kind words.
tadema, Just to let you know, all of the images were rendered in a HDRI "soft box".
Funny how these threads can go down a different track. Just started it as a "here's a kinda of neat prop" I modeled. Kind of went down the road to let's make it look like a product ad image for wine openers. Do appreciate everyones comments and suggestions.
Posting the model. Enjoy.... One final comment, you can pretty easy adjust the position of the lever, corkscrew and knife blade. Click into the main component, select the sub component you want to move and use the rotate tool on the center of the parts "hinge pin" and rotate as desired.
-
And another thing further down the hole. A serrated blade is better for cutting the foil.
-
Here's a quick one to help show what Tadema means about the HDRI.
The 'texture' on the handle is all reflections from the HDRI.
Your Soft Box may be too 'Flat'.
-
Nice images Box. Actually did a couple of renders using an HDRI that gave a "sharper" light like what you used, just personal preference for the images with the "softer" HDRI that I posted.
-
Ok. But I thought this had become a render this thread, which shows multiple renders of a specific model.
You don't need to defend your renders.
Other renders are not criticism just different options. -
No worries Box. Just thought I was clarifying I understood the points Tadema was making earlier....

I am happy about this contribution - in every facet of every participant. It is a living proof of how open, constructive, helpful and respectfully this forum deals with each other, despite minor misunderstandings here and there. A great place because the question about SCF's future has been asked in another post. So thanks to all!
@ Charles - how did you make this helix cork screw part? and btw - I love your detailed view onto an everyday object in itself
-
HornOxx , Really appreciate your positive comments about this thread in general.
On another note.... How did I make the corkscrew part.... Started by creating a helix line with the "Follow Me Helix" plugin. Did some minor adjustment on the helix with the scale tool ( compressing , stretching ) so it best matched the patent drawing I was working from. Drew a circle on the end of the helix, making sure it was square to the last segment of the helix and then ran " Follow Me" tool. Created the point and the rectangular section for the hinge end with "Vertex Tools". Pretty much got real lucky as it went pretty smooth for something I haven't done in a long time.

Here is my attempt. Still getting my head around HDRI.
-
Thanks for the model, here's my quick try:
-
baz, Good show ! Really like the different view point. Can relate to your comment about HDRI's. Looks like you may have used one of the studio setups from the SKetchUcation store. Their great but still trying to wrap my brain around "best practices" with them.
chedda, Your welcome. As usual your image "rocks". -
... sorry - I couldn't resist to appreciate this beautiful model with a rendertest too
For years now, exactly this opener has been somewhere in the back of my drawer and I haven't even noticed that there's a blade in it as well ...
-
Good show HornOxx.... like your cork too.... again enjoying the different perspectives everyones doing.
-
quick render, using old scene setup. Thea render.
-
Solo, that looks really great. I like the colors and the lighting a lot.
-
Pretty cool solo ! Liking the texture you gave the handle scales.
