Sketchup based Illustrations

Sketch a day (ish).
Work has been slow this month so I have been practicing hand painting models in Photoshop rather than rendering. Most of these are kitbashes of previous models I have made with a couple of bits from the 3D warehouse such as the ammo drum on the drone, the dodge charger car body and the shipping container. Have been having lots of fun, the car specifically but I kind of cheated as that took two days!

Nice!

Wow! Looks so.. fresh! Please keep upploading.

WOW !!!!!!!
these are all great (great in double word meaning) models - I'm so impressed. Also great are the graphics you have created !!!
In particular I love your "Thomas the Tank Engine (?)" graphic because of the idea, the pure violett Background and the total black of the shadows...Yes, keep posting !

Thanks!
The challenge is to create one per day so if you look closely a lot of the components are re-used and kit-bashed as well as I took the whole car from the 3D warehouse.
The Hovercraft for example takes the well deck, boat lift and helicopter deck from my LCS2 model:
The anti gravity bulbs are just re-worked CIWS turrents.
The main objective that you have picked up on, is to just come up with some cool pallete and shading styles without using a rendering engine as the source.
It's a lot of layers in Photoshop, the car is just over 100 layers.

Seriously good.

Very cool!

Now Thomas is truly a very useful engine!

Here is one that is part of a poster I am working on for the new Blade Runner Movie. No rendering again just SU export and Photoshop. Final colour scheme will be changed, this is about six days of work so far.
Edit: updated the image.

... this is so cooooool again !!!!

Deja vue, seriously cool.

Here is one for today. I built the TV based on a version from the trailer of 'Stranger things 2' ( Go to 1:05
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgS2L7WPIO4
However the original idea I decided not to go with and instead made this GIF. The model is all new but the screen I took from Giphy. It's a six frame repeating animation created in Photoshop. I used Round Corner extensively, way more than I needed to for the final image, but had no idea if I was going to do zoomed in shots, Thanks @Fredo6!
I used Thea to create the sheen on the outer casing. I used basic plastic blue with a simple light setup. I then cut out those panels in Photoshop and used 'Hue & Saturation' > Colourise > Changed to the colour below. Thats also how I make most materials, it means you don't have to try hit and miss so much in the engine and can do it much quicker post-pro.

Very nice! I know these monitors well. Used them when I worked professional film and TV. Then we switched to the smaller and lighter Sony's.
Many moons ago.
-
Thanks all, I should have another one tomorrow!

Here is an old model from 2019. The majority of the parts were converted to 3ds form the LDraw library and I made the missing ones. Originally done as a University project I just re-drew it this afternoon.

Looks like a frame from a MSPhysics explosion in a not so far future (2019) with a nice SketchUp rendering.

I am making an animation for an event that I work at every month in Gothenburg at the Concert House. I am on route to Amsterdam for work but the flights are so expensive where I live (ยฃ350+) I took a four hour bus to Copenhagen and saved myself about ยฃ200!.
I made this, the first frame of the animation this morning. I took some photos from streetview as well as some from Google so its reasonably accurate but didn't need to go into too much detail.
I used the same process as usual but took some extra shading for the interior shadows.
Side note, its ยฃ9.41 for a beer in the airport, bloody Danes!

Hi Liam.
Great image.
I see that you work in Gothenburg. Thats just an hour north of Halmstad where I live.
You didn't happen to attend the Arch Viz Days at Lindholmen (Gothenburg) last week? It was a great event. -

Well I 'live' in Gothenburg but no luck with work, still freelancing for old client's in London. Flying to Amsterdam now actually to try and drum up some more clients...
I went through Halmstad on the bus this morning on the way to Copenhagen (airport)! You must let me know next time you are in town and we can grab a beer!
