Problems with fur/carpet rendering - sketchup 2016 vray 2
-
Hi
I always liked the furry carpets, because they give that extra realistic touch. I tried a few times with no success.
Today I wanted to give it another go.I tried different approaches.
The first one was to make a carpet myself.
It sounds really easy. You make a rectangle and you apply a fur material.
The material I made was with a falloff map in the diffuse, using a dark grey and white.
It had a displacement map on it (tried noise and splat), you tweak the size and amplitude.
I unchecked "use globals" and changed the edge length to 2 in the displacement properties.
(I know that reducing the edge length will increase render time)I pressed render and the building light cache took forever. I had to cancel it after 2 hours. I think it just hung.
The second approach was to download an example. (sketchuptexture.com/2013/07/free-sketchup-3d-model-fur-carpet.html)
When i tried to render it, it had the same result. I lowered the light cache to 2 subdivs just to see.
It went trough, but result was afoul of course. Is it normal that it takes more then 2 hours to go through the building light cache step?
Are there other methods? ( I got skatter)
Any tips??I got i7 4930K, 32 gb ram and gtx 1080.
I hope it's just a bug or something stupid I forgot.

Are you using GPU acceleration? If so try disabling it, if not try using that. (Also make sure graphics card drivers up to date)
Can you also share your render settings?
