London tower block fire.
-
A relatively small tower block went up in flames last night, not an old and neglected unit but recently refurbished. I am completely stunned that more than a hundred families were caught up in a fire that should never have had such a hold let alone wick to the roof.
What is going on? We are supposed to be improving our materials and technology rather than going backwards. I suspect some foul play and complicity as regards the refurbishment such as skimming on budget and downgrading materials used.
It may be irrational but I am really angry about this.

Such an awful tragedy.
I was under the impression tower blocks were meant to contain fires to an apartment to prevent this exact event.

I would doubt the resident of the flat this started in would have closed the doors. It might have allowed more people to escape if they had. Good to see the community react in such a generosity of spirit.
Some good perhaps.

I am saddened and shocked by this tragedy. That fire spread too fast.

This lesson must be learned with materials used in particular being essential. Apparently the regulation only requires the outer face to be fire resistant NOT the inner face which strikes me as an epic fail from the start.
I am talking about the cladding.
