What?

More murders in Europe, my Trekkie faith is taking a knock. What do I want for Christmass? People to stop killing each other, a truce for a start will do.
-
yeh mate, a truce would be nice but that seems to be a pipe dream.
When I watch the 24 hour world news channel, I brace myself for news of yet another nightmare happening somewhere in the world...it just won't stop...!!
-
So sad to see these horrid acts on the news this morning.
I just hope that 2017 heralds a new approach to resolving differences.

I do too. Not likely to happen, though. We ought to brace ourselves for more attacks, and for the political fallout those will generate.
My advice for the new year: strive for the good, and generously administer nut kicks to those who don't. 'Cause it won't be the meek who shall inherit the earth.
If you'll excuse me now, chores to do.

It's sad that we seem not anywhere near evolving as a species Mike! We seem to be moving further and further from the Trekkie dream! Though I have faith that if we all just do in the very least one good thing for each other every day, we will slowly get there.
I live by the moto, "let me do good for someone at every chance, as I may not get that chance again".
As a simple example: For me I live in a very public spot (on the most popular beach in Sydney Harbor), I'll at many times in the day wonder over an park myself on a boardwalk bench soaking up the sites (bikini clad women mostly, life is hard). If I see a family looking for a spot to sit, I'll offer the bench I'm sitting on 1 versus 4 = 4 wins in my book and I'll always state that. As this beach is the safest of Sydney's beaches they are often foreign or non national families, most often they are rather taken with the fact you'd offer, and then just as often will want to engage!
In other words, always be a good ambassador for your home - for your people, others will see the wealth of your generosity! If we all kept doing lots of seriously easy things each day to make life better for our fellow humans, we will reach that Trekkie dream!
And seriously, we don't need to do those things with any sense of outcome, we should want to do them with the knowledge that that stuff is just the right thing to do!

Just about sums it up Richard.

Yes, well said Richard. Even a simple 'hello' or other kind words can improve the day for people.
Generally, I find average people to be good and well intentioned. Much of the ongoing wars and inequalities worldwide are caused, not by ordinary folks, but by power brokers, bought politicians and central bankers. We need more Direct Democracy. Hopefully, we will see this happening now that the Net is democratizing information.
-
1 I am afraid that direct democracy is possible only in local communities, where people know each other eye to eye. I don't think that those in power, those you mentioned would let NET out of their control. Do not forget who created it in the first place.
2 The other problem is - are average people mature enough for democracy? It is not the question of being kind in simple things. That is easy. It is the question of being able to give away of some of the fabricated needs used to buy your vote. The truth is always bitter.
"We will bomb somebody far far away, but do not worry about it, it is for their good...and you'll get the part of it, like cheaper gas, better health insurance, a new car, iphone... more human rights so we all be happy! Yeah! Vote for us!"3 Or like in this movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/?ref_=nv_sr_1
