For inexperienced people like myself, how do you get all of the dimensions and detail information to model things like this?

I use a free program kerkythea

As the plans, I use paper models and photos and plans available on the internet

I do not know .
Model I started about a year ago, but I had a looooooooooooooong break.
Besides, for me it's a hobby, so do not create models every day

It is better to know your weaknesses
