Installed Sketchup 2016, Lost all Plugins
-
After repeated prompts when opening Sketchup Make 2015, I eventually succumbed and installed 2016. But now all my plugins are gone...
Do I have to go back and import each one individually, or is there a way to bring them back en-masse. Please, I hope the latter...

You can bring them all in with Sketchucation Store. You can access your collection of plugins and install it.
It's under your user settings on bundles.

You should still have v2015 available...
Install the SketchUcation Toolset from its RBZ available from the Resources menu above....
This will make a Bundle for your computer's v2015 in the additional user options tools available in the ExtensionStore³ dialog.
This will include all Plugins available from SketchUcation.
If you now open v2016 and also install the SketchUcation Toolset, then you should find the Bundle for v2015 listed, use that to do a bulk-auto-install of those extensions/plugins.It is far preferable to install fresh copies as often there are updates to suit some foibles of the newer version, whilst maintaining backwards compatibility...
If you have some extensions/plugins that are not available from SCF - e.g. there are some from the Extension Warehouse or Smustard.com or author's own sites, then you must reinstall those from those sources.
The EW should offer a reload tool ?Version v2016 needs to have its Preferences > Extensions Loading Option set to be the most relaxed if older 'unsigned' plugins are being used.
Also remember that some tools like Fred's and thomthom's need a Lib installing as well...
Because there are relatively few differences between v2015 and v2016 you could risk copying some things from one Plugins folder to another, however, installing from a new RBZ if it's available is very preferable.
When copying ensure that the loader .rb any matching subfolder are copied over.
Never copy the su_xxxx rb/subfolders, these are added by Sketchup from its ShippedExtensions folder.
There are also some other like the su_utilities and sketchup-stl importer which should also be installed afresh from the Ext-Warehouse...If you have the SketchUcation Toolset installed there is a submenu option to open your Plugins folder for you - as it's usually hidden by default...
PS: After manually adding plugins and sometimes even when installing from RBZs [especially when a Lib is involved] you should close and restart SketchUp to ensure everything is properly updated and registered...

In Window/Preferences/General turn off 'Allow checking for updates' and you'll never be prompted again.

yup, what he said, best advise...
Smustard has a plugin called MySmustard, it gives you access to all your Smustard plugins from one point, no need to hunt around.

Another tip.
If you want to keep your shortcuts, provided the OS is the same [i.e. both PC or both MAC], then you can open the older version...
Preferences > Shortcuts > Export to a dat file.
In the newer version...
Preferences > Shortcuts > Import from the dat file.
I think v2015 to v2016 will be OK... but if both versions do NOT have an 'Extensions' menu rather than the older 'Plugins' menu, then before the import step, you might want to edit the dat file, using a plain-text editor like Notepad++, and replace any "Plugins/" with "Extensions/", save and import it... -
Thanks Tig and others for your help. I followed the instructions and imported the 2015 Bundle to Sketchup 2016. All fine except this one, which I use a LOT:
I'm designing for 3D printers mostly, and find this plugin absolutely invaluable to ensure I export printable STL files. Once they turn purple, I know I'm in the pink! If anyone else is 3D printing from designs in Sketchup, I thoroughly recommend it.
I did try copying the Susolid.rbs file from the 2015 plugins folder to 2016 plugins folder as Tig suggested. It shows up as a drop-down from the Extensions tab, with its own list of drop-downs as in 2015, but the icons don't show up on the toolbar. It doesn't work from the Extensions drop down either. Maybe this is done by the developer to stop people from copying/pasting this paid-for plugin, fair enough!
From what you say Sk2016 seems to be very little different to Sk2015. Unless you think it's really worth it, for the avoidance of hassle I'll just keep using 2015 I think.

Try and find the original .rbz file for Susolid and install that using the Install Extension button in Window/Preferences/Extensions.
-
and there's a 'contact' button on site you gave (;
-
In the end I did get in touch with the SuSolid software designer David Malnar, and he sent me a new copy of the plugin. All working now Once again, I thoroughly recommend SuSolid for anyone who's exporting STLs from Sketchup for 3d printing.
Cheers, BP
