@Chedda your models/renders are always very professional and interesting. ๐Ÿ‘

One of the things that always intrigues me is the backgrounds in your renders. They always match the topic so well and seem to have just the right detail for the model being rendered. That is an areas that I struggle with but I think it primarily has to do with the subject of my models.

Keep posting because they are always interesting and inspirational. Wish I had talent like you but have to be satisfied with my level of expertise and output. ๐Ÿ’š

Looks like a new alien movie blockbuster. The most interesting part, the beginning. Something extraordinary is going to happen...Dam...dam...dam...dam Very nice.

Thanks for the responses guys. I seem to remember a string of dishes in a film i think it was 2010 the space odyssey sequel i might be wrong. ntxdave thanks for your comment. I don't really notice my learning in 3d day to day but when i look back at my first work i am horrified. I try to expose myself to a lot of good art and photography as well as classic films. I think also looking at details and lighting in the real world is a key. Maxwell has a physical sun with many variables it's like an app in itself. In this case i could simulate a hot desert dusk to match the setting. Context has always been a priority to me as it informs design and the image greatly. This is a trick i learned at University as a youth. The hardest part isn't really making the model realistic it's optimising it so i can get a fast render. This desert scene was super easy in that respect it's just a ground plane with an online sourced hi res texture. The listening dish came in blender format so i opened and exported it as .dae colada into sketchup. Then after adjusting the textures i made a proxy. Sketchucation has been a fantastic resource for me over the years and is a super community with some very talented artists, modellers and script writers.

Brilliant scene, I think the film is Contact (Jodie Foster).
