i just wanted to test the shadows in sketchup.

i placed a one meter stick on the ground measured the shadow lenght to 2.8 meters.

i then created a 1cm x 1cm x 100cm object in sketchup, added my location sat the correct time and date - and used UTC -1 (denmark).

the shawdow lenght was 5,14m in sketchup - almost the doubble lenght.

does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

i did the same test in revit - and it was 2.82 meters.

        my suggestions:

        1. complete your profile with sketchup information
        2. check that date / times are setup correctly
        3. check location and altitude is set correctly
        4. ditch revit

          hi juju

thanks for your reply - and sorry - signature should be updated now.

          date and time was correct
"i then created a 1cm x 1cm x 100cm object in sketchup, added my location sat the correct time and date - and used UTC -1 (denmark). " - and location checked.

why should i ditch revit? revit did it correct - sketchup not.
no need to demean revit - revit has it's pros and cons, and so do sketchup.

I looked at your model and on june 24 at 12:20 I get the shortest shadow, being about 73 cm.
You didn't give a specific time to check the model for.

                  Or like the watches : 10 h 10 😉
Because at 12 h somewhere maybe shadows don't exist!

                    Hi wo3dan

I thought the date and time was saved in the file - it was when I opened the file.

                    Date was 22.06, time 19:19.

Your model shows UTC+1. Shouldn't it be UTC+2? It's summertime now!

Change it to UTC+2 and you'll get desired results.

oh my - that really was a simple, but stupid mistake.
thanks for clearing it out for me.
