Speedtree - efficient trees for SketchUp?
-
My company bought a license for Speedtree, primarily meant to create trees for 3ds Max.
My question is, will this work for SketchUp too? My primary concern is whether it can generate simple enough geometry, which can be exported to Sketchup with transparency and UV mapping maintained.

I do not know the product, however I do see it's ideal for games so there should be a way to set the level of detail (LOD) and export to a format SU can import.
-
IIRC speedtree is also available for Unreal Engine...

If you want to render the trees and have 3DSMax, a possible workflow could be to import Speedtree to max and export a Thea render proxy or Vray proxy and render it in SketchUp.
If you want simpler models for SU I believe its possible to export low res versions directly from Speedtree. -
I remember seeing a YouTube video from a guy using LOD trees in Blender Game engine.
The video wasn't great but the workflow show lo poly tree generation.
