      Hi guys.
Spent some time looking in web without success hence the question here.

I want to play with geometrical shape kayak paint scheme ideas. For that I need kayak 2D projection both in vertical and horizontal planes.

Any suggestion how to have a 2D perimeter shape in this case?

First, make sure the kayak is a group or component to keep it separate from those faces. Then Move the vertical face to the longitudinal centerline of the boat and use Intersect Faces to get the shape. Select the entire vertical face and move it away from the boat. Depending on what's inside, you may find you need to delete some lines inside the outline. Just erase them.

For the plan view, you'll need to get the sheer line of the hull, which, being nicely swept, will be a little more of a challenge. Perhaps the easiest way with native tools is to place vertical guidelines at the vertices of the sheer line curve. Then use the Line tool to connect the points where the guidelines pass through the horizontal face. Since your hull is symmetrical, you only need to do the port side. Then copy the resulting curve with Rotate/Copy rotating on the centerline to get the starboard side.

You could do the same thing for the cockpit and the coaming if needed.

There is a projection extension but I think you'd find it won't save you any time because of the way you'd need to select edges on the boat for projection.

Nice looking boat...are you building it? Strip built or plywood?

              Thanks guys, got my projections!

Im building a stich and glue sea kayak. Image of boat is not mine but from 3D warehouse. I use it to play with a few color schemes I have in mind.

I have a stack of how to build a kayak books on my shelf that have been collecting dust for too long.

                One of these day!
