Copying of Window Components
-
Hi all, I have a question which I´m almost ashamed to ask it here
It is a simple thing to create a window component. Is it just as simple to copy this window component on the same wall (please see case [1] below).
If I copy the same window component onto an other wall and try to copy both window components as done in case [1], this operation doesn´t seem to work (please see case [2] below).
Didn´t I understand any SU-principle or do I make any other mistake?
Since I have to handle an incredible number of windows on as many walls next week, I hope someone can give me a hint to my stupid question - thanks!

It doesn't look like you're doing anything wrong. Evidently the hole cutting only works on one face at a time. I just tried it in SU16 to see if it was any different but I get the same results you did.

Ah, yes, I didn't try it that way but now that you mention it, I remember it works. I'm surprised the method you tried and the problem you discovered hasn't come up before. I don't have much use for hole cutting components in my normal work flow so I hadn't experienced it myself but you'd think someone would have discovered it.

Thanks Dave for your very fast answer and testing!
This "cutting" method is not my usual workflow but this method could have been very helpful to speed up my current project - a great pity.
Since my question here refers to a very old basic SU workflow it's interesting that this "one face limitation" has not been mentioned so far...I tried a little further now (please see case [3] below)
if you select a whole bunch of windows from one face and copy this bunch on a different face, the whole thing works this way at least and will help me to get along and probably all this is the normal behavior, which I did not use so far...Thanks again

I pick up this old post just to check if something has changed here - unfortunately it didn't

Copying whole window component bundles from one wall to other walls (respectively from one face to another face) is possible! (left example in the GIF)
-
The subsequent simultaneous copying of individual window components distributed on several walls (respectively several faces) is not possible! (right example in the GIF)
not a big thing though, but this not understandable copy function restriction still exists ...

I have often tormented myself with it, but never investigated it more deeply. I always thought that the walls are somehow slightly interwoven. That was not the cause ...

exactly that was my assumption at the beginning
