      Hey guys

I'm looking for a 'world builder' "terrain painter" similar to what gamers use to make customized maps.
It must be able to export to either a 2d or 3d format.

Anyone know of one that is easy to learn I'd be most appreciative.

I'm not a 100% on what you need?

You need to sculpt terrain and then paint it with a soft brush?

What kind of mesh do you have to begin with?

I actually only need a 2D image, however if it creates 3D terrain textured and exportable then it's even better.

Not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish but with Google Earth Pro being free now you can export high res images and paint whatever you want in photoshop or similar. You could create a custom terrain jpg by sampling a grass area from one export, sand or asphalt from another export and so on.

the only thing that springs to mind would be to use ANT Landscape Addon in Blender to generate the terrain then use a layered texture made up of procedurals eg. sand > rock > dirt > grass > rock > snow

and then set this to apply to the terrain based on height.

but the sheer scale of the texture is based on the terrain.

or make a texture like above and project across a mesh then bake the result to the mesh and paint in remaining detail?

What he wants is to paint several textures merged on the terrain, therby he needs the function to blend materials or textures. UnrealEditor can do this for 10 years, the engine is free. for sketchup i dont know if there is a way to allpy more than one texture to a surface
