Can anyone please point me to a thread or explain how to create a line only export from sketchup to be used as an overlay on a render in photoshop?

As you can see in the image below, I loose the batten definition in the high gable ends and it seem like the overlay trick would help.

      Thanks

        • Use the same view you used for this render and change it's style to hidden line,
        • change the line color to black and the background to white
        • 2D export an image from sketchup wich has the same height/width of the render.
        • Import it as a layer into photoshop/gimp
        • Place the layer above the render layer and use multiply layer mixing mode.
        • Done!

        Complex example:

Also make sure you create a scene in sketchup for the view you want, this will ensure your exported images will line up when overlaid. It is a good idea to export the linework image at twice the size and then reduce it by half in your image editor. This helps to smooth out the jaggy lines you get from a raw SU export.

Paul, I do this quite frequently and commonly with sketchy line styles. I often export the hidden line image at higher resolution than my textured image and resize it to match the textured image size before creating the overlay. In some cases I might actually make several different hidden line exports at different sizes to get different line weights.

You might also try a ambient occlusion render then overlay it. Mask-in the places and the intensity you need it.

                      pbacot,
I use Podium for rendering. I will have to jump over there and see if I can find a way to do what you are suggesting.
I should have thought to look at my render program for a process.

                      Thanks
