I love this website, I hate this webpage.

@Krisidious: The webspeed tests you've run only shows the result for http://sketchucation.com
However, I'm pretty sure the OP means the forum, hence you should try running the tests using this URL.... http://sketchucation.com/forums/Unfortunately, you can't test what this looks like, when the user is logged in...
I often notice that in the bottom left corner in my Firefox browser window it says:
Waiting for srv.buysellads.com
Perhaps it's a performance issue from that server, which slows the whole SCF down...?!?Nevertheless... I certainly have no plan to leave...

fwiw.. it's hit or miss for me.. and connection speed doesn't seem to be the deciding factor.. or- both of these can happen when im on a fast connection and on a slow one.
β’ page is white forever(20seconds?) then content pops up.
β’ page loads in normal page loading time. -

Like I said. That lazy load works against us for forum posts with lots of imagery.

I've been traveling for a few days and the first post I read is this.
For Fuck sake get a life and add something to the community and merry Christmas. -
Safe journey

Cheers Rich. I've made it home. First Christmas with my family in 17 years.

Looks like we will soon need approval on topic and content from Box before posting! I'm puzzled how did the forum ever survive pre-Box

Merry Christmas...lol. It is a valid complaint..."The loading has nothing to do with 'us'
Contact your ad machine owners and tell them to clean up their messy scripting. No excuse.
..and the thread turned pretty snotty there at the end.
Or not...it's your traffic. -
Did you have too many eggnogs, Bruce...??
-
It not my traffic. It's not anyone's traffic.
Communities grow their own attraction and audience. One of this size requires subsidies to allow growth.
2 servers, a CDN, hosting, mail servers etc all cost.
Running our own advertising would also cost.
The number of variables when it comes to different browsers, network settings and IP speeds mean we simply can't meet all expectations.
We'd love to but that requires manpower and investment.
I hope everyone is enjoying their Xmas or equivalent.

The pages seem to have to completely load, (ads included) before they appear in the browser. This is so annoying!
You can't open another pages in another surfing sites during this waiting time ?
etc...

This is the Font that Layout uses for it's default dimension typeface. If the font is not available to layout then dimensions will not be visible while using the dimensioning tools. So, activate the typeface or reinstall it.
Font management applications.
I use a Font Management Application which apparently turned this particular face off. If you use such an application make sure it's on.*]
Now, about your comment. I lack the specific skills set to code my own workaround for this admittedly minor inconvenience and therefor cannot offer a suggestion for a resolution but that doesn't mean I have to keep quite about the page and the "user experience". If the iT guys and the web developers never here suggestions or complaints they never know any problem exists. I know that you think everyone should just shut up, act like sheep and take what's handed to them, never complain, never make waves. "if you don't eat your meat how can you have any pudding?"
BTW: the only reason I am here again is because Layout refused to show dimensions I was working on so I needed to retrieve my own solution from the post archives. So, please save your snide comments.
-
I'll stick by my snide comment as I fully believe it was in keeping with the tone of the thread you started. I had considered editing it for language but I haven't.
Act like sheep, never complain etc etc etc..... on the contrary I believe we should all be giving constructive feedback wherever possible to help the guys get things working at an optimum level.
I point out faults, pick up errors, troubleshot speed issues, test new systems........
What I don't do is complain that the site is running slow on my computer because they are trying to force me to read advertising.
I don't demand things from a free website that is set up to help people, that is unaffiliated with the software that it is here to help you use, that tries to cover the costs of the servers needed to supply you with all those lovely images in the gallery that you liked to look at in the past by asking you to view some very specific sponsored advertising. A site that isn't here to sell you something but simply to provide a place to help and educate others. Yes it has a shop, but that shop is basically a place where a lot of individual sellers can offload their stuff together. A site that has developed and given away so much over the years and continues to do so. A site that makes sketchup a joy to use and is continually adding tools to make it even better, a site that........Anyway, to cut a long story short, you started the thread because you felt personally insulted by the people who work hard to keep this place ticking over and I found that offensive and said so.
I will remain here and continue to help people wherever possible and you are welcome to return whenever the mood takes you, or you need to dig up (from the archive on those expensive servers) your own advice again. -

You're absolutely correct and from what I've seen for years here, the Admins of this community are very open to criticism - constructive criticism that is...
The sum of your initial post is something like this:
"I dislike this website and this will be my last post, Farewell!"
Please explain to me where the constructive criticism is in this...?!?You act like a spoiled child, hence you'll get treated like one...

Where or who made you feel like this...???
No-one have told you to shut up and just be happy with things...
Rich O Brien have even admitted that the choice of the template currently in use wasn't the best choice and that they're working on a solution...
@rich o brien said:
We do all we can.
Our template choice last time was not the best.
It loads a serious amount of requests just for the page.
And further...

But the next version is pretty awesome, fast and built to be mobile first.
If you don't like things, then please leave and go play somewhere else...
Nobody is forcing you to stay... -
As soon as I locate the team of IT and web devs you mention I'll pass on the message.

Ganging up in the sandbox huh? And you call me juvenile. Smart Asses. I know website dev and maintenance isn't free. But as a designer If you can't take criticism your in the wrong business.
I could not find the option in the user settings so go ahead and delete my account. Im sure with pleasure and extreme prejudice.
