I've been intrigued by watching the Nick Sonders' videos. In the second video he notes that he makes a number of models for each project. A base model, a site model that references the base model and a number of other models also referring to the base model for the purpose of generating section views, reflected ceiling views, and interior elevations.

What I don't see is how to link a reference model into a SU model file. Any help would be appreciated.

A model SKP can contain another SKP as a component.
If you change the SKP that is the component you can reload it into your model SKP and it will update.
That's the basis of the idea...

That is for inserting a component in a model. (File > Import)

If you have a component already in the model, you can rightclick on it and choose "save as...", you then choose a folder and the component gets saved there.

Then you can modify it in another sketchup session.

On the original model you can rightclick on it and reload. The modifications are being imported.

Of course this "external component" can be imported to several different models, wich will always be able to refer to that external reference using context menu "save as" and "reload"
