      Hi all.

Got with the program a week ago, other than the usual Newbie problems ๐Ÿ˜ฒ ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I have at least one unusual/unexpected "feature".
This happens in both SU 8 and SUP 2015.

Have a rectangular block with all three axis sitting at the origin point. To get a "Follow me" path I draw a 600mm line going Minus on the Blue axis starting at the Origin point, from the endpoint of that line I draw another 600mm line aligned with the Green axis (GL). Generate an arc starting at the origin point and the end point of GL. Bulge is unimportant. Click on the arc, call up entity info and set the radius to 600mm. then do the "Follow me".

Perfect shell except there is a slight gap at the top of the originating face and there is a gap at the bottom of the shell i.e. the shell is less than 90ยบ.

WHY? or how do I check that the lines I draw are actually at a 90ยบ angle?

      TIA for your valuable help!

      HJ

      Cheers

      HJ

Please post the SU file. What "profile" did you use in the follow me? FollowMe is not perfect but could give you the result you want, depending on the situation.
Check angle with the protractor (same as hand-drawing). (Edge color by axis style would work in this case.)

          Thanks for the prompt reply.

          Attached are the two files

Getting90degConstruct shows the 90ยบ arc (Follow Me path)
          Getting90deg2 shows the result.

In the meantime I figured out that I can connect the end points to where they should be; easy if it's a simple shape like this one, a bit more work if the face/profile has a lot of points.

          Regards

          HJ

PS On another note; I would like to add my Sig, but can't find the sig box in the UCP. Any tips? Thanks!

This is the typical SketchUp problem with tools that are supposed to be following an arc or curve. It's because SU treats it like segments. You drew the arc shape as well as can be done, but notice the last segments (representing the arc) are not really at 90deg. Use segments beyond the arc that are truly square--and aligned to your initial direction-- to begin and end the FM operation, adjust the shape afterwards as needed (such as pushpull the ending leg back to the arc, if that's what you wanted.)

Click the heading at the top of the comments "Settings" That takes you to the User Control Panel (UCP) there's tab: "Edit Signature".

As Peter says, Follow me works better when you extend the profile. For example you'll get better results following a full circle and removing half than using a half circle profile.

Here's a quick rework of your model.

Yes, there are a lot of miracles working behind the scene in this forum to make things like these happen ๐Ÿ˜‰

It's great that most folks understand how to deal with this issue but IMO the failure to handle an arc on its own is still a bug that the SU team should fix.
