Does the amount of video memory matter for SU?

Researching new boxes... Does the amount of video memory matter to SU? In case... is there a performance impact on a 2GB vs 4GB video card in a new iMac?
-
Video memory will definitely have an impact, but I'm not sure to what extent you will notice between a 2GB and 4GB card. Also, just a word of advice, go for a PC. Sketchup has had always been slightly problematic with Macs, if the accounts are to be believed.

Pretty vague, sweeping, and in my experience (I use a Mac) unsubstantiated statement! There are some problems that occur only on Windows and some that occur only on Mac, but neither is "slightly problematic".

Ok ok you got me -holds hand in air- I used a vague and unsubstantiated statement in the hopes of convincing this kind man to avoid paying for overpriced hardware in a pretty box with a clunky OS
Seriously, not gonna go any further into this because I have a definite bias here, but I really don't think a Mac is worth the price you pay.

Hahaha... I somehow knew this would turn to the Mac vs Win issue eventually. All joking aside, I'm a huge MAC fan and think the platform is far more stable and superior to Windows. But there's no denying that a superfast Win box is superior for SU. We're running SU on both Macs and Win and when it comes to large models and large SU files, the Win machine wins - granted it has a slightly faster processor - but double the perceived SU speed.

you can monitor your vram usage to see how much you need

I'm also not interested in a religious war. I use both PC and Mac. But I object to innuendo offered without any facts, just based on rumor and bias. I would react the same way to a Mac bigot.
