Just so everyone knows, these guys just ripped off images from Matt Donley right from the main page of SketchUp.com.

If anyone needs help getting their stuff off of any of the sites they operate, I am willing to help.

Ok, they removed Matt's image, but now have one right off of the SketchUp home page. Hope they got permission.

Feel free to weigh in Sketchup Ur Space.

I doubt they are here... Over at our BlackBook group we determined they are indeed only a SEO website traffic scheme. People are here to learn, they just use google alerts to post new links I'm sure.

The unfortunate downside to posting about them here is that you have probably generated more hits for them than complaints. One of the cases where even bad publicity is good.

I don't care how many hits they get. If we don't speak about this publicly it will never get dealt with.

They are allowed to get all the hits they want, they shouldn't steal other people's content though. This is one of the best forums for getting the word out.

                    @Box

                    I tend to disagree

This tactic they employ of recycling good copy from knowledgeable users into their own content is not something to ignore.

There are multiple occasions where I have spent hrs writing a detailed tut to only see it repeated elsewhere.

That alone hinders me in creating more detailed content which means users lose out.

Brushing this away is not the answer. Publicly educating these 'SketchUp Promoters' that mimicry isn't allowed or flattering.

By educating I don't mean to witch hunt them but to actually let them know that my shared content is still my content. Credit me, ask me or tell me you are using it. Don't just cut, copy and paste it and make revenue from it.

You've got me wrong, I think they should be wiped from the face of the earth..I was merely saying 'the unfortunate downside' is that more people will go and look at the site, generating more revenue for them, while those they steal from have to struggle against them.

So continue to let the dog shit in your garden with the hope that it will stop at some point?

                          Weird logic.

My attitude is educate not ignore.

They have used the PM system, twitter, facebook to harrass me in the past to promote their channel.

This isn't an overnight problem but a longterm campaign by their content creators to hijack others content.

I don't care if a million people visit the site based of me saying that they shouldn't. My point is to let Professional SketchUp users know that what they digest there is other people's content that is not credited.

I'm not interested in good or bad press. I'm interested in seeing people given credit where credit is due.

Arrrrgh, I agree with everything you are saying!!!! I don't think it should be ignored!!! I agree that something needs to be done and it should be yelled from the top of the highest peak, But, and it's a very tiny but, I was simply saying that while posting here is a good thing to help educate people to this practice, the very nature of people going to look at it so they know what to guard against increases their hits and therefore their revenue, at least in the short term. If only there was a way for people not to have to visit the site to understand.

Surfing is great fun, but one unfortunate downside to it can be getting sunburnt. Doesn't mean you shouldn't go surfing.

It is SketchUpUrSpace I want to educate not members here. I certainly don't want to see them 'wiped of the face of the planet'.

They need to know that it is not a nice practice.

Telling people here that my content copy was used elsewhere might cause that person to say...

'Hey, Rich doesn't deserve to have his tutorials posted elsewhere. I am going to give them a piece of my mind about that'

Instead, I get some dude going 'Arrggh' cause he thinks I don't know what he is saying. Great.

I totally agree with Box's point. Sites like these only live for traffic, they don't give a rats a$$ where they get their content from. In their minds, any exposure is good exposure. I don't imagine they really care what we say about them here as long as it drive traffic to their site.

@Box, I get what you're saying...one thing that would help NOT drive traffic to their site is to make your link in the 2nd post of this thread not clickable.

I too have experienced Rajib copying an article I wrote and reposting it on his site. He removed it after Matt from MasterSketchup and I emailed him asking him to remove it. I refused to create content for their site after seeing how shabby the site was run.

It's not just traffic we're discussing.

It's perfectly ok for someone to say 'hey, just ignore it. Move on'

But this is just a small example of the stuff that devalues good contributions.

There's another thread running on this forum where a member is complaining about commercial plugins not working in 2015.

This same member actively pirates and shares pirated software elsewhere.

Another member translates plugins so that they can get access to commercial betas tests to then crack and distribute.

Currently 90% of the free plugins available on the PluginStore are under a subscription system in China.

I can't ignore that approach to others hard work and talent.

Much the same as someone robbing a rendered image or model etc.

I know we can't police the Internet but we can educate those that make their own rules.

Rich, what these guys are doing is almost the opposite of what you describe. They want exposure, whereas pirates want to hide and sneak around. Nobody should ignore the stolen content, I don't think anyone who's posted has said that. I think the response needs to be different for this case - IMO it's better to bombard them with removal requests and ask everyone we know to boycott and provide negative reviews of the site where possible. BUT, avoid giving them traffic as much as possible.

Yeah. I totally agree. I just wanted to give u guys a heads up on the type of activity this community faces daily.

I look at duplication of any content as a bad thing that affects everyone of us.

Ideally I'd like to see all the members that SketchUpUrSpace lie to everyday posting here and learning from fellow pro users.

But I think I'm deluded in that regard.

I do side with Matt and Eric on this one though.
