[Plugin] ZipUp
-
I do.
The pointy end
-
scratching my head
Why can I not understand why one would need this?
How would this help in a workflow, I don't get it.
-
Do you send unzipped files to clients?
If so zip a .skp and see the size difference
-
To further answer your question...
It can be used as a final release system.
As quick way to finalize a file for distribution.Knowing it'll remove unwanted elements and zip it in one action
-
And further to that finalise, purge, zip and upload to dropbox or similar with less bandwith and storage issues.
-
Just a query...
Is it possible to import .zip, extract and load into scene?

Yes.
You either download the .zip onto your PC, or select it using a file-browser, then we just extract the .skp from it into a temp-folder. and if it's a valid skp then add it to the model like any other component - either offering the choice of placement or inserted at 0,0,0 ?
Obviously v2014 skps in zips will NOT insert into v8 just like newer components fail in older SketchUps...
But I see this as v2014 only anyway - as access to Zip is available with Ruby2.0... -
It'd be pretty killer to have that....
-
I'll think about it when I have some time... next week...

will I lose my vray data after zip since it purges the file?
-
Did u try it on a test file?

Try a copy test file...
Then let us know what is 'lost', if anything...
If you explain what V-ray data gets purged which you'd like to keep, then I could probably add a setting likeZipUp.vray=true
[default would be 'false
'] - so it would then NOT purge certain things that V-ray needs?
Is it V-ray-materials ?
You can choose to NOT keep the purged Model, and revert to the bloated one after the ZIP is made.
Even a subsequent Undo soon after the SKP>>ZIP was made will undo the Model's purging if you accidentally say Yes to keeping the purged state !
BUT remember that the whole ideas is to purge the SKP that gets ZIPped so the recipient gets the trimmest possible file... What happens to the original Model is up to you... -
Here is v1.1 http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=ZipUp
It is updated to work down to v8, although it works best in >=v2014... -
Thanks TIG.
Quick question, do you see the world in code?

Like Solo, I don't have much need of auto .zips, but is there any way that ZipUp could also save an image/thumbnail of the skp?
You have undoubtedly heard of the trouble us windows people are having with seeing skp thumbs in explorer. This is becoming a serious pita for me.
Within the magic of this plugin, would it be possible to be able to see thumbs?(thumbs of actual images). It would be a huge help. If I had the option, I would choose an image 'save' of 600x 400px in jpeg. If the image also had a link to the skp, I would probly wet myself.
I know I'm pushing it here... but what about an option to save, purge, etc. and generate image/thumb etc, without zipping, but to a new folder?

Here's v1.2 http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=ZipUp
It fixes a minor glitch with v8 zipping... -
I wanted to ask if the plugin can save the skp in the zip in an older version. But I looked in the help in the pluginstore and there it is
Maybe you should add this info to the first post here too?
Thanks again for this helpful plugin!
