From vray to thea?! thea thea!!!!!
-
Vray for sketchup couldn't handle high poly files and proxies items not working for me either. I was given the advice by rich brien that I should try thea.
My question is where I would get all the tutorials for leaning it. Should we have a section just for thea render ?
Also I'm thinking I might just invest in modo for complex render projects. Or should I try thea, but still with the limitations of sketchup? In modo I can model and import directly and then render. But thea isn't a modelling tool. It will be cumbersome to import meshes without the ability to model it?
K my head isn't thinking clearly.coz I haven't tried thea yet. I learned thea can be fast as vary. But well we'll well. Hope me out guys. Thanks. -
Side note: I won't be using 3ds max . I know it's awesome with vray! And has a lot of 3d models and tutorials.

Also my MacBook Pro specs: 2.8ghz quad core intel i7 turbo boost to 3.3ghz
8gb ram
. Is it decent enough for Thea render? -
Download thea trial. I never used vray, but with thea for Sketchup, and as I don't have 3dsmax why would I?

Well you get the choice of using the Thea plugin or the Studio.
Use the plugin for normal, relatively simple models. This allows you to tweak the model and render in the same place.
If you have a really complex model, import it into the Studio. I normally do this when the model is finished, scenes are set up and I just don't want to render inside sketchup. I find Thea Studio very reliable and stable indeed, even with massive amounts of geometry. I generally use instancing within the Studio too, it's just the complete package.

I tried the trial version. and the weird thing is i clicked on the Edit in Mat Lab button, it didn't do anything. its supposed to open a the studio material lab winow rite? also thea crahses my sketchup with my vray installed. but i can do with a workaround. please help somehow. i really want to use the thea studio for complex scene. though vray has proxies but when i import the vray mesh proxy into a scene. the material lost all the textures. too much trouble using vray proxies.

It's very difficult to help you with what you give us. Too many variables and I know nothing of vray. You also installed studio trial right? Or just the SU plugin trial?
-
Duplicate your plugins folder and save it somewhere.
Delete all your plugins leaving only Thea plugin and any folders associated with it.
Restart SU, see if Thea works. You can then start adding plugins into the folder to see what is causing a conflict, or install via the rbz files.
If it doesn't work, come back and we'll try something else, we need more info to help out.
Oh and proxies with Thea are soooooooooooo easy. You can add tens of thousands of blades of grass and still navigate within the model in the Studio! It's actually quite refreshing to use the studio and have easy-to-use proxies that don't slow down the model too much. You can also hide all proxies until you're about to render anyway.

There been some suspects that if both vray for SU and Thea for SU are installed there is change for a crash (maybe observers do not play well). Anyhow... about the crash, you really should post a detailed bug report at Thea forums (if you not already have done so); used software version (su, thea & vray..., os, hardware specks, gpu drivers and so) so that Tomasz can take a look on this.
