I am working on a fence design that is made up of notched and overlapped boards (lattice).

Basically two boards with multiple notches depending on size of the fence panel.

What I am trying to do is make a component that is able to be scaled to size for each fence panel and have the interior of the fence fill out appropriately.

Is what I am wanting to do possible?

I've attached an image of the lattice with it exploded to show the dadoes.

    I appreciate the advice.

Take a look at dynamic components.

        Let me rephrase.

I am thinking I could use Dyncamic Components to do this, however I cannot determine how to do it with the notches rather than just scaling the ends.

        Thoughts?

I haven't done one like this, but I believe it is possible.

What are your constraints? For example, are the dados always a fixed distance apart?

          Hi

            Hi Jim -
            Yes they are evenly spaced.

            The openings are 2" square.
The dados are 2.75" on centers, dado width is .75" with a depth of .375"

              hi
there are two components on the attached drawing, save both to a component folder.

to make a dynamic notched member one needs to connect a number of sub_groups, then use the outer-shell command and explode to make it one after the dynamic changes. The result can be reinstated to be dynamic later if required by swapping it with its original.

the component contains a group(s) that holds the sub_groups. a group at a level (named shell, shell_me) as the point to right click "outer-shell", right click explode

The first one is just a series of cubic that can be clicked into to outer-shell to form a solid lattice.
the second one requires the copy function to be off initially, after changing the attributes go through the rail to its shell point, then outer-shell, explode. then go into the post and do same. now can go pack to front dialog and change copy this to true. this method is to save having to do every rail/post.

You can then swap back to the original if you require any changes.

the component contains only groups so that you don't get residue references as with components
plus it will up date to the outer attributes

              hope this helps
              Philip

scale able version of notched post / rail attached.

amended ends so that is only a half lap if there is no extension

                  Hi guys.

Here's my take for a scalable component.

It also would rely on a Outer Shell being run on each stick, but this could be automated easily enough with a script.

This could be used for both the vertical and horizontal pieces I think, but I didn't have time to try.
