Migration tips needed - SU 8 to SU 2014

I'm soon going to migrate to Sketchup 2014 from version 8. Can anyone give suggestions as what to backup and how to backup plugins so that they run smoothly and efficiently?

Usually I would just copy paste all my plugins in the plugins folder of sketchup program files.

Don't migrate... Install 2014 and then the next thing you install is The Plugin Store from SketchUcation. Then install all your plugins fresh from within that system or the EWH. If a plugin is not in one or both of those places, then you need to do your due diligence and investigate that specific plugins 2014 compatability. This may be a hassle but I bet it's worth it in the end. I haven't done it myself.

Sorry, I didn't get it completely. By installing fresh you mean downloading all plugins one by one from the internet inside the plugin store interface

or

My pluginstore interface detects plugins in my folder and then i install one by one from my plugins folder via sketchup plugin store?

And what is EWH?

One more thing. I'm in really hurry these days. I got tempted to download 2014 just because I read that it does processing faster. So if I copy my plugins folder in 2014 program files, what issues can I get?

Incompatibilities, crashing and plugins simply not working.

I know it's a pain to install everything again, especially when you are busy, but it really is the best option if you want to avoid serious headaches. I find that the best approach is to start with core plugins you know you will use on a daily basis (Artisan, 1001 bit, weld, SketchUV etc.) and then only add anything else as it's needed.

Doing that you should be up and running in next to no time.

EWH: Extension Warehouse. Look under the Window menu. It's another source for plugins and while there is a little overlap with the SCF Plugin Store, there's not much so you'll likely need to look in both to get all of your plugins.

You only need to look through recent threads in this forum and the Plugins forum to find out the advice Kris gave you is dead on correct. Lots of posts from folks who did what you wanted to do claiming various plugins don't work in SU2014 or listing error messages. If you are in a hurry, just install fresh copies of them.

You can copy Materials, Styles and local Components libraries if you wish, however.

Sorry for being too questioning on my methods. But what happens in the inside when there's a plugin installation from plugin store? What is the exact difference.?

Does it do hard installation in sketchup inner software architecture? [can't think of a better sentence here...]

The Plugin Store installs plugins to the correct directory based on the operating system and SU version and, importantly, maintains the correct file structure which historically has been difficult for many people to do manually. Read any of the long threads in the Plugins forum for proof of that. With SU2014 the correct location to be putting plugins is under Users/App Data. The beauty of this is that you don't need to be concerned with the location because it is handled autmoatically

The Extension Warehouse does the same sort of thing. Of course with the Plugin Store plugin there's a number of tools for managing the plugins once you have installed them but first things first.
