Hidden geometry affecting scenes
-
In sketchup 2013 have a model with several scenes. in the first scene all the architecture is on but in the second scene I need to hide a part of the building that is obscuring a view. I have been going into the second scene and hiding the geometry and then update that scene making sure that hidden geometry is selected under the save properties. Now, when I go back to my first scene I am finding that the geometry is also now off? Is there some trick to getting elements to be hidden only in the second scene or in a scene dependent manner?
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

For me this works. Another possibility would be the visibility control with layers.

In the FIRST scene, is hidden geometry also set to save?

You should be using layers to manage visible and invisible entities between scenes.

As mentioned by Dave and other previous posters, use layers.
Why not just update scenes? Because hide is not "sticky" throughout scenes, i.e. will not be remembered properly throughout scenes when this hiding concerns geometry inside groups and components. Only the top level geometry will still be hidden.Structure your model with (nested) groups and (nested) components and entirely controle visibility in scenes with properly chosen layer sets. Try to avoid "hide", unless for basic geometry.
Better yet, use hide for temporary things when working on your model, like temporary getting a face or group out of your way to get to geometry in the back. -
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. In the first scene we are also saving the hidden geometry...Normally we don't use hide for anything other than a working tool, but the dialog box seemed like this could be done. Normally we use layers to manage visibility across scenes but in this case the element we are trying to turn off is already on a layer that we are managing the visibility of in other scenes and we didn't want to have to go back and update all scenes...was just wondering if there was a trick to getting an individual scene to save the hidden geometry as the dialog box seems to suggest is possible. Will just add the layers and update all the scenes. Thanks!
