A Wee Bit Chilly

That's a good question. I can tell you there's an ale in my beller

Hey Dave
Just finished a stint on a design build project before Christmas where it hit -29. We hooked up a generator and held a hair dryer on the electricians hands so he could do the main drop to a transformer.
Beer doesn't work for that... you need Rum
Good Luck and stay warm. -
Thanks Dale, I hope I don't need a hair dryer to work on the anesthesia machines on Monday.
When I run out of beer I'll switch to scotch.

In a similar chilly vein "Geordie of the Antarctic"...
It's a famous UK skit.
I live in 'Geordie-land'.
Geordies are notorious for going out on the town in mid-winter without coats etc - perhaps they think it's hard, but it's also practical as there is nowhere to leave your coat safely in the late-night clubs, and you can always get a taxi home !
We've hardly had much of a frost this winter [so far!] - although ~20 miles away there's snow 'on the tops' over 150m altitude, and the weather comes from the West... so worse is coming over from the USA any day soon...

I'd never seen that before. Funny.

From a few hours north of here.

(Dave I think you missed a bunch of negative signs in your first post.)
We were at -11F today (-24C). That's pretty cold for us. We're not getting most of this current chill, just a little bit of the end of it.
Good luck out there Dave!
-
Wouldn't -55 below be a double negative?
Thanks for the good wishes. They've called school again for tomorrow because of the cold. It's supposed to be up around freezing for the weekend, though.

A sweltering 21 F last night and expecting 18 F tonight. I already went out and euthanized all of my plants.
-
Sure, good point Dave. But you put the negative sign in front of the Celsius numbers, so it was visually confusing to me. Eventually I figured it out, but I never actually noticed that you were typing the phrase "degrees below"....I need to learn better reading comprehension
-
Sorry. Mixed symbology or something.
-
Dallas was colder than New York today...meh! I work from home.

well, it was 'warm' here i guess you could say but it was that point where it's raining and it's about 2º too warm to snow.. (i.e.- worst weather ever )

So Pete, did your furnace run continuously?
According to Garrison Keillor this weather makes us serious.

Furnace? I have central air, runs at 72 degrees 365 days a year.

Bloody hell that's cold!!
Bit of contrast here; spent 5 days over New Year sailing the Whitsunday islands on the Great Barrier Reef in North Queensland... 5 to 10 knot winds and 21²C [70²F] minimum during the nights, up to 36²C [97²F] during the day with humidity in the 80's!!Glorious!!!!
-
Andrew, that sounds like fun although that's a bit warmer than I like.
-
It seems like most of our European/Romanian weather went to you. At this time of year we should have had the coldest time(-20°C,-30°C ),instead the last three, four weeks it was between 3°C and 17°C. This is very bad for most of the plants and threes because they are flourishing and then the cold will come and goodbye fruits and plants !! At least they say it will come gradually(but still...).
I hope for the best and wish you a warm weather and wish me a proper cold weather ! -
You know its cold when cows seek warmth on your hood.
