      Hello!

I am considering leaving Autocad in favor of SketchUp Pro as the primary software for my residential design office documentation.

Is it possible to produce a standard, professional set of construction documents with SU and Layout?

      Has anyone else done this?

Thank you for any thoughts/issues related to the above.

      T

Nick Sonder produces some quite stunning construction docs using SketchUp Pro & Layout...
Look for his posts and videos... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=nick+sonder+process&oq=nick+sonder+process&gs_l=youtube.3..0l4.12846.14795.0.14988.8.2.0.6.6.0.93.155.2.2.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.P2pxvCtj_Lk

There are also several other good examples on the forum... do a search...
Here's a couple of random teasers...

You need to learn the 'process'... it's not 'CAD'... ๐Ÿ˜•

Wise words. I abandoned ArchiCAD because SU offered greater flexibility. It does things differently and once learnt it is very capable but as with any software there is a learning curve some of which will be establishing your own workflow.

In the past year I made the same move you are trying now. Never regreted a day and my work has become both more productive and fun.

You'll have issues, like I did, all successfully overcome.

            Best regards and good luck,

            JQL

Thanks for the useful feedback all. As I research and gain valuable insight from users like you, I am leaning heavily on making the switch.

I'm really glad I found this forum.

I replaced it this year... Been pretty happy so far. Of course I miss some things. However it's been good, and a hell of a lot cheaper.

As TIG said, Nick has some gorgeous drawings and nice tutorials for process.

I have worked with AutoCad Architecture since 1994. I have been working with Sketchup Pro for 3D models only for a year. I like the links posted on how to use Layout. Think I will finally be able to abandon Autodesk..after I practice some. I love SketchUp. I like AutoCad for some things...I used to model in 3D, but have not done so ever since I got into SketchUp...I think everyone ought to leave Autodesk due to their non-cooperation, and lack of improvement over the years.
