You ran out of memory. SketchUp crashes once you get to about 3-4gb of memory usage, regardless of your PC's hardware. In the next release, there will be a way to offload a good chunk of memory usage to a local 64bit instance of the (Windows) DR Spawner (yes, OSX users can utilize a Windows DR Spawner, and no, we don't have a 64bit version of the DR Spawner for OSX yet), and skip any render processing within the SketchUp process itself.

        tips:

        • Reduce the usage of Displacement in your model. If you aren't looking at a surface from a profile angle, you could probably get away with using bump instead of displacement

        • Render directly to a VRImage to reduce the amount of memory that the VFB uses to display your rendered output (it can use a TON, especially if you're rendering multiple channels)

+1 - This will usually solve the problem by itself. You can render to EXR, but if you have channels, you need to have ProEXR installed in Photoshop to see the channels.
