Can i save to an .skm with .vismat link?
-
Hi all,
I'm having this problem with .skm and .vismat materials. I'm using Sketchup Pro 8 with Vray 1.6 on windows 7. My materials are stored on a NAS. I was wondering if i save a material in my model to a .skm, will it i some way remember the .vismat related to it?
I would like to just add materials to my model with the paintbucket from my the materials library so that the vismat settings are automatically applied.
If tried this but when I use the paintbucket to paint my .skm i get a bugsplat. When copy/pasting a material from another model, or when embedded in a component, this does work. But when importing directly from the sketchup materials library i get the bugsplat.Any thoughts?
Thanks -
Unfortunately, SU8 and VR 1.6 have a bug together that if you apply a SKM to a object and that object has information tied to it, like VR info or Maxwell info, etc. it will cause a BugSplat. You have 3 options.
- Just right click the SKM and choose add to model, then apply, it should not crash
- Apply all materials with VR disabled (you can use ThomThom's Vray Tools to restart VR)
- Upgrade to 2013 where the bug has been fixed.
Honestly, it was the #1 reason for me to upgrade to 2013 as there were no new features that were really all that exciting but I need this bug fixed. I would push Trimble to patch SU8 to fix this bug.

Sorry for the late response, but thanks for explaining valero!

I believe Trimble is already working on 2014, I highly doubt they are going to spend even a second, trying to improve SU8
