Autocad file imports extrusions

Hello, all...
I have a client whose "2D"acad dwg files, when imported into Sketchup end up being extruded all over the place. They appear like normal 2D drawings when viewed with camera set to parallel view and overhead view is selected in Sketchup. As soon as I begin to rotate the model, the problem appears. I see that their files have the same problem when I use Acad orbit tool. Obviously, the client is doing something wrong when working in 2D, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix on our end or do I have to have them fix it on theirs?

If the CAD user can use 'Flatten' before you import that helps.
Or use thomthom's Architect Tools to do it inside SketchUp...
Or use one of the other similar 'flattening' tools - even Sandbox > Drape onto a flat face will flatten most things...However, if the weird lines are more like a 'graphics glitch' that actual geometry, then check you have your Preferences > OpenGL options suitably setup, and your Graphics-Card's driver is up to date.
Another possible issue is that CAD data located miles from the CAD origin can cause SketchUp problems with 'clipping planes' and sometimes other line-weirdness. Import CAD data with the option to preserve the origin OFF. Then its imported geometry is placed near the SKP origin rather than in the next country.
This doesn't always fix messy CAD imports - sometimes an included CAD-block that imports as a component can have its geometry located near the origin BUT its block-origin miles away - causing similar issues - in that case move the component's axes using the context-menu.
Also CAD blocks that have been modeled in some other units, then incorrectly blocked/wblocked etc, then perhaps imported at x1000 their real size into the CAD drawing, and then scaled down in CAD [i.e. block scaled, rather than the contained geometry scaled], can cause similar issues - as once again a chair's geometry might look like it's ~1m in the SKP but it is actually ~1km across inside its definition - in that case rescale the definition, again in the context-menu... -
