      Hi!
I'm very new to this forum and to Sketchup, which I've only just discovered (about a month ago) and which I'm trying to come to terms with. I find it quite difficult, though, and need your help in a matter which has been driving me crazy for 5 days already...

I'm trying to create a 3D-object (as .dae) that is only partly opaque and has some completely transparent parts. This object is to be used in Sweet Home, as a wall decal.

I already created a picture with transparent background :

My problem is that I can't make it a .dae or use it as a material. I did try, but obtained a picture with a black background... ?

Do you maybe know which step I've overseen? Help ?

try saving the image file as a .png for transparency. As for .Dae, I think you'll need Pro to export that file type.

I think the real problem is that the image appears to be a gif file. Now although gifs have transparency, their bitrate is too low for SU. They are only only indexed 256 color instead of full 24bit RGB like jpg files or the 32 bit RGBA png files.
You'll need to raise the image's bitrate in some image editor that allows a change of mode, then save it as a png with transparency.
