Hi Folks, I need some help. I bug splat way to much. I am running on a Dell precision 6600 workstation laptop. 750 g hard drive, 7200 ram, 8 g memory. AMD graphics card. Its a great machine and I know the hard drive could be my killer but is there something Sketchup is doing or a plugin I could get to deal with this issue. My models are not over the top. Mostly commercial steel ,detailed residential railings and misc. metals. If I wanted to design a house I would be up the creek without a paddle. Thanks

You might have some clashing plugins installed.
These can include some rendering apps that mess with materials [especially if you have more than one of this kind of renderer loading] and some more complex scripts [nascent BIM types etc] that can add ill-conceived observers or overwrite native class/methods unwisely causing other innocent plugins to splat, or even crash Sketchup itself...

Is there a pattern to the splats?
What is loading from your Plugins folder ? [screenshot?]
If you 'disable' some of the more complex plugins [i.e. move them out of Plugins] do things improve ??
Often users have many plugins loading that they never use, which slow down startup and can cause clashes too...

Also, do you have the very latest version of Sketchup, and any plugins that you must use ?

A screenshot of the Plugins folder itself would help too - not all tools get menu entries...

Try and disable the following in turn, and see if it helps avoid the splats:

= Driving Dimensions [dd.rb?] - know to overwrite native API methods and clash with other legit tools - my 'prime-suspect' in this crime...

and then the one's I don't know much about:
            = EdgeDrive
            = SuSolid
            = Rain Demo

As far as I know the others should be OK [I also note that you have none of my tools installed 😉 ]

Thanks TIG! I will give it a try. I do have smart offset, and Im going to look what else you have. Any suggestions? Maybe you would consider making one I have in mind. Check the Welding topic I posted earlier. People have work arounds and thats great but people could make out really well with a great plugin for welding. Something similar to the format of engineers toolbox.
