Road Marking - Help!

Hi there,

I'm new here (just registered) and I have my first question/s.

I am trying to draw road markings in Sketchup 8. I am wanting solid yellow lines, dashed lines to specific sizes (such as 3 metre length stripe with a 7 metre gap). These are to be 100mm wide.

Here we go...

1. Can you create custom line styles in Sketchup?

2. Can you draw road markings without black borders on them? For example, I want the dashed lines to be white on a grey background without any black lines around each line.

Can anybody help me? I have tried searching Youtube and the net in general without any luck.

You r input/help would be a real lifesaver here as I have a project I'm working on which needs this sorted.

maybe.. i mean, you can create custom line styles in sketchup but if you're thinking of making a style to paint stripes on roads then no.. what do you have in mind?

you can select the lines you'd like to disappear then rightclick and choose 'hide'.. (or via entity info dialog or edit menu)

or you could set the lines to be the same color as the material although the lines don't shade the same as surfaces so it will sometimes look like a yellow stripe with a thin bright yellow border.. (that setting is via the styles->edit panel)

1. Draw your road surface and make it a group.
2. Draw your striping as rectangles over the road surface to your required length and width. Save this line work as another group.
3. Highlight the line work group and select the drape tool.
4. Then select the road group as the drape surface.
5. Now you can color the striping on the road any Color you like.

This will work regardless of elevation changes in the road. You just Ned to make sure you are drawing the striping in the correct relationship to the road edge.

I realize it is not totally accurate and the alignment may need some adjustment after (Where it gets out of alignment, group those sections and realign the pattern with the next section)
