You must be doing something incorrectly. I just made that example a few moments ago and it works exactly as I described. Perhaps you haven't got a complete intersection. Can you post the SKP file so I can see it?

This is a case where you would select the geometry of both holes and use Intersect Faces>With Selection to create the required intersected surfaces. then select and delete the unwanted faces.

When I do this, welds do appear in the form of lines at the intersection points of both holes. But when I try to select the unwanted area through one of the holes now, it selects both pipe surfaces together including the unwanted area in the middle.

Correction: I could only delete one of the four unwanted areas.
See file attached (removed anything unnecessary).

I see the problem. The initial circle you drew for the cylinder parallel to the green axis was drawn off axis. So the cylinders don't really intersect perfectly. Make life simple for yourself and always drag out the radius of circles on an axis. That will get vertices to align with other vertices. I would redraw that hole and try the intersect again.

I've corrected the hole and then ran through the steps I described and it works just fine.

I'm glad that helped. I like those simple fixes.

In case anyone else comes along and wants more clarification, I made up an example that is easier to see.

On the left I've drawn two crossing holes using 12-sided circles. The yellow one is drawn off axis and you can see the two don't cross to form a point. On the right both circles are on axis. They do cross forming a point at the top.

                  Hi Backstyler, hi folks.

Sometimes there is a need to use the Intersectfunction 2 or more times in a row to get a complete intersection.

Another possibility is that the model is so small that the edges that result from the intersection are below the lower threshold of SketchUp for automatic face generation. This phenomenon is often seen when using the Follow metool. This threshold is about 1/16 inch or about 1 millimeter.

The workaround is to model larger than lifesize and then to scale down when done. Suprisingly, faces that cannot be formed at very small size can exist when scaled down. The problem is only when creating them.

                  Just ideas.

Jean (Johnny) Lemire from Repentigny, Quebec, Canada.

Using OSCoolean and Hole On Solid plugins can make this much easier. I struggled making a "fittting" block for mounting to an air cylinder with an O-ring port - things like check valve - relief valve - quick disconnect. Required drilling intersecting holes that were 5/16 dia bores but counterdrilled & tapped for 1/4 NPT fittings. Making a "plug" solid group and then using OSCoolean ,especially, made it easy. Can use same plug for different depths using move and/or scale to adjust diameters and depths. Holes included 118 degree drill point (common drill point included angle).

That's a good plugin maybe, but the OP's problem couldn't be much easier than by Dave's method. Easier than downloading a plugin.

And the key problem he had was caused by having drawn one circle off axis which a plugin won't fix.
