I am creating an illustration for a woodworking plan using SketchUp. I need to export an image and want one that is more crisp.

Here is the .png image set at 2750 px wide...

I am using Microsoft Publisher to assemble the document and this is what I am shooting for...

The SketchUp image looks good, but I want it to be a little less distorted. Any suggestions?

      Jeff

How are you creating the images? I would export PNGs at probably 4000 or 5000 pixels wide. You can set that under Options.

Keep in mind that exporting at higher resolution will result in thinner lines. The lines from SketchUp are 1 px wide (and profiles can be something larger based on what you've set) If you have to reduce (scale) the size of the image to get it to fit on the page, the lines may disappear or nearly so.

Actually, if I was doing it, I would use LayOut for this. Then I would render the images in Hybrid mode to get the textures but also get vector lines instead of raster. They would look cleaner and you can control the line weight.

Interesting bed project. Where will you be making the plan available?

Thanks, for some reason I was thinking I could not go as high as 4 or 5,000. I set it to 4,000 and it looks much better.

One of these days I am going to have to get SketchUp Pro. I know it is much better suited for my needs and I am thinking I could do a full plan in LayOut.

But for now, my deadline on this project means I'll have to stick with Publisher.

The plan will be at http://www.sawtoothideas.com

Glad that got you on the way.

Yes, you could do the full plan in LayOut. That's how I do them and I've got quite a few of them under my belt, now.
