Vray - Use Color Texture as Transparency.

Over the past week I have been creating watercolour tree components in sketchup, however, I've come to find that they are a little cartoony. With this in mind, I have been trying to give them a transparency to tone them down a little, to no avail.
The referenced image file is a .png file, and I have the "Use color texture as transparency" boxed checked. When this is unchecked, the transparency works fine, however, instead of removing the clear space from the .png file it makes it white which I obviously do not want. When it is checked, the transparency option does nothing. Is there a way to use both of these settings simultaneously, or do they make each other redundant?

I think I've run into this issue myself.
Think I ended up extracting the alpha channel into a separate image and adding it to the Transparency slot in the diffuse.

I just tried this and couldn't get it to work, perhaps I misunderstood. In a nut shell I used both the new and old method of cutting the background from a material, by using 'Use colour texture as transparency', and creating an alpha channel in the transparency section. I tried a few things, including inverting the alpha, but I couldn't get anywhere. Any ideas? If you remember, could you check the settings on the model you were successful with? I've done a bit of research and can't really find anything useful...

sometimes, the white and the black in the alpha mask of the image file are not pure white. When this happens, the transparency may not be processed correctly. If you make a new mask that is purely b&w, then vray will process the cutout correctly. (wonder if this might be an issue in this other post)
BTW, incorrect maps will also slow vray waaay down. -
could it be that the png is not being saved as interlaced?
