      Hello again

My query this time is which method of rendering would you recommend for simple folk like me who are still trying to get to grips with the myriad of functions on SU? Some time ago I downloaded Kerkythea, but I think I'm a long way from being able to use it as it is really rather difficult to figure out (I'm one of those annoying people that doesn't like reading boring instructions and prefers to figure things out by intuition πŸ˜‰ ). I don't require things to look "photo real", just anything that is an improvement on that basic SU renders.

      Thanks

Maybe Podium or one of the other integrated renderers would work for you. I tried several of them and didn't have much luck so I've stuck with Kerkythea. I only use it a couple of times a year but I've worked out something that is sufficient for my needs. Maybe this would help you, too. It is by no means the definitive guide on using Kerkythea but it is enough to do what I'm after.

For me the more funny and easy is Lumion but in free πŸ˜„ Max (1280 x 720p) and a very little logo watermarked
it has a crazzy terrain Modeler, ocean, skyes... and accept any sort of file! πŸ˜‰

Nice tutorial Dave. It's also good to remember that some time ago Majid made a Google SketchUp and Kerkythea – fast start 4Architects -tutorial. Perhaps worth to look on if not done yet. He has written also a follow-up tutorial called Kerkythea – take a deeper look at materials. I think they rather easy to read - comparing some more technical tutorials at kerkythea.net.

UH-OH! I just fired up Lumion for the first time and it crashed my laptop (the dreaded blue screen!)

I'm scared to try it again 😲

It won't download? Or you can't run it?

Best bet is to log into the Kerkythea forum and ask your question there. I imagine a search of the forum there will turn up an answer to your question before you even ask it.

Won't download. I've also posted there, anywhere I could get help would be much appreciated. That forum doesn't seem too active, last post in FAQ-section from June...

Strange. A friend of mine just downloaded the Mac version the other day with no trouble.

                        Good luck on getting assistance.

Kerkythea2008.dmg seems to download just fine. Maybe you need to clean the web-browser cache.
Even Kerkythea is some years old, it is still pretty usable free renderer. Forum has still regular visitor.. and forum admins. But like usual we have our own lives too, so don't expect a 24/7 responses.
